Got Any I-Dears Or I-Hears About Where Ponce De Leon Found Fountain Of Youth?

Was he wearing his tin suit and spiral hat -- as depicted by historian-artists -- who swore what Ponce de Leon wore to come ashore?

In celebrating the 500th anniversary of Ponce's pursuit of youth, St. Augustine and Melbourne Beach are deigning their reigns from "evidence" that is more cant than certain.

The two cities are 144 miles apart -- and duke-ing it out over which one has bragging rights (and huge inflow of tourist dough) as the April 1513 landing spot of Spanish conquistador Juan Ponce de Leon.

St. Augustine happens to be North America's oldest continuously inhabited city, hence its plans for "Viva Florida 500" celebrations this spring.

But event organizers in Melbourne Beach point to their own evidence that Ponce de Leon made his landing below Cape Canaveral, just south of town, rather than 15 miles north of St. Augustine.

In Orlando, meanwhile, notable theme park additions include Sea-World Orlando's "Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin" and Universal Studios' "Transformers: The Ride -- 3D."

Penguins and Ponce de Leon? How far can you go from palmy, balmy tropics to zero minus?
