WSJ: Overheard On The Street : When It Comes To 2013 Academy Awards - See Gap

ALL THE HOOPLA ABOUT THE ACADEMY AWARDS CENTERS ON TWO MOVIE MAKERS:

Walt Disney's Buena Vista and the Weinstein company have one thing in common: They are tied for the most nominations (16 each) but the similarities end there.

Buena Vista's nominations were spread across five films with a combined box-office take of $1.22 billion. Weinstein's, however, were for three films with a total box-office take of only $167 million.

"Marvel's the Avengers", meanwhile, got only the nomination for visual effects. But as 2012's highest grossing movie, producer Buena Vista can probably live with the snub.
